Weight Loss Without Exercise

by Umberto Massimino

Here at Umax Fitness, whilst we believe that exercise is paramount to keeping the body and mind at its best, we also understand that our diet is a fundamental part of keeping fit and healthy too. We also understand that many people who do regularly exercise may still look for easy and natural weight loss tips if they are not completely satisfied with the results of their hard work training or at the gym. Whilst we would always encourage physical exercise, especially as building muscle can help to burn excess fat, not to mention it helping to have a healthy heart, today we are going to focus on how to benefit from weight loss without exercise.

Manage Your Portion Size

Whilst it’s important to think about the nutrients you are getting from your food, the best way to start losing weight without considering the impact of exercise, is to manage your portion size. It is likely that you eat beyond being full, especially when cooking delicious yet nutritious meals. Managing your portion size can mean that before you serve your food, you save around one third or half, which can then make for a tasty leftovers-lunch the next day. It can be hard to cut down the amount when cooking, so these kinds of habits can also save you money, as you still eat the food, but repurpose it for another meal. Using smaller plates can also be a handy tip to encourage smaller portion sizes.

Practise Mindfulness When Eating

One reason why we get used to eating bigger portions is because of our fast-paced modern lives. The pace of our lives can also impact on the speed that we eat our food. When you have taken the time to cook, you would also benefit from taking the time to eat it. By practising mindfulness when eating, you slow down to appreciate the tastes and textures, taking more time to chew your food, which also helps with digestion. Eating at a slower pace should help you see better when you’re full, and goes hand-in-hand with smaller portion sizes. Eating without electronic distractions can also help to slow down the pace of your eating.

Cut Down Sugar Intake

Although sweet treats can be enjoyed as part of a healthy lifestyle, what is difficult about sugar consumption is that it is hidden in so much of our food. Read product labels and avoid items that have high sugar content. Simple carbohydrates are also broken down into sugars, so replacing these with whole grain options such as brown rice, bulgur wheat and wholemeal bread can also help to reduce sugar intake. It’s also worth remembering that even products that seem healthy such a fruit juice, are actually full of sugar, so best consumed in moderation. If you regularly drink sugary drinks, try to drink more water instead. It can also be helpful to make sure sugary items are stored out of sight, so you don’t just consume them because they are there and have to actively think to get it. Whilst cutting down sugars, increase your intake of proteins and fibre-rich food.
