FAQs about Fitness Training and Having a Personal Trainer

Here at Umax Fitness, we specialise in fitness training, whereby personal trainer Umberto Massimino will help you to achieve your sports and fitness goals. Believing that exercise and nutrition go hand in hand, Umberto Massimino works with his clients through a combination of the two, bringing together the necessary qualifications and experience to help you on your individual fitness journey. Today we’re going to focus on some frequently asked questions, so this is a great place to start.

Where Do I Start?

It can be daunting to start working with a personal trainer. You can’t hide away at the back of a class, and you’ll always have someone to be accountable to if you sabotage your goals. However, it’s also important that your personal trainer is able to understand your unique needs and views on what your fitness goals mean to you. During our first consultation, you will gain a physical and psychological assessment before we even start the first personal training session. You’ll get statistics for your full body composition and measurements, with the process taking up to half an hour.

How Much Does Personal Training Cost?

It is important to remember that personal training is a specialised one-to-one service, so it is not going to be as cheap as a group class, because you don’t have the same attention given to you. Instead, you get a bespoke service and a plan that is unique to the results you desire. We can offer deals if you make a long-term commitment, but prices can change depending on your starting fitness level and how many sessions you would like to book. Either way, you can book on a fortnightly or monthly basis, and if you book more than four weeks, you will benefit from a discount.

What Can I Expect During a PT Session?

The beauty of personal training is that this will change over time, and as your body gets used to the training, you will naturally need to adjust and evolve what you do to stretch yourself further. We will build up slowly, looking at your range of motion, stability and flexibility to lay a solid foundation for exercises such as squatting and deadlifting. With a calm and relaxed approach, you’ll be challenged to push forwards when capable and confident to achieve your best each time.

Do I Need to Train Outside the PT Sessions?

How much you train will depend on your individual goals, as well as your current level of fitness. It also depends on how many personal training sessions you book each week. The more you can do consistently, in a way that is manageable for your lifestyle, the better the results as you will find it easier to quickly reach new targets. But there’s no rush, so the focus should be on what you are able to maintain, and we will also cover how you can plan and fit training into your existing schedule.

Do I Need to Diet?

It should come as no surprise that diet culture isn’t healthy. Everyone has a diet, and for the most part, our goal will be to make this healthy, but this also means having a healthy attitude towards food. The mental psychology can be as hard as the physical side. Instead of following limited, restrictive diets that focus on denial, it’s important to have flexibility. As part of the nutritional side of your personal training, you will need to monitor your food, so we can look at everything holistically. We can then see how we can adapt your eating to help any goals. For example, swapping from semi-skimmed milk to skimmed milk, or eating one strip of a 500g chocolate bar instead of the whole chocolate bar, as well as incorporating all the food groups you need to sustain yourself, such as protein, fibre, and healthy fats.
